Hopeful Parents

I was going through some old folders and I came across this Far Side comic that I found several years ago. If I recall this comic was dated somewhere between 1989 and 1990.

While it’s no question that most, if not all of all The Far Side comics are absolutely hilarious, I like this one in particular because I can relate it to my childhood (humorously, of course).

Online Documentaries

Learning BrainWith a little over a month left before all my shows finally come back, I’ve been occupying my time by watching online documentaries. These are mostly commercial free versions of documentaries shown on the various channels which broadcast this type of content.

Here is a list of the some of the sites that I often use to find online documentaries.

An Advertisment You’ll Watch Twice

Check out this advertisement. It kind of goes slow until the end. Keep watching it though because when it’s over you’ll say “ohhh cool” and then watch it again.

See, I told you. :)

From the Earth to the Moon

Recently, I started watching ‘From the Earth to the Moon’ and I have to say that it is really good. I know I’m about 9 years behind (was originally released in 1998) but I recently came across Apollo 13 on TV a few weeks ago which led me to read about it on Wikipedia, which lead me to the mini-series.

Both Tom Hanks and Ron Howard were part of the production team. The series is about the Apollo space program in the 60’s and 70’s. It mixes both historical footage with scripted footage. It really gives you a great breakdown of NASA at the time and the race to beat the communists to the Moon.

It is a 13 part series, with the first episode quickly going through all the events leading up to the start of the Apollo program. It can be hard to follow at times because of all the people involved with the program. Sometimes you forget who’s an astronaut and who is working within NASA as administrators, but that is just a minor detail.

Say it ain’t so Clark!

Supergirl will now join the ranks of super heroes who have cameoed on Smallville.

CW’s Press Release:

Look, up in the sky: it’s a bird, it’s a plane! It’s…Supergirl! This fall, Supergirl will be joining the lineup of burgeoning superheroes and villains in “Smallville.” Supergirl is the latest DC Comics character to join the series that has previously welcomed Martian Manhunter, The Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Brainiac. Casting for the Supergirl role is currently underway. “Smallville” airs on Thursdays at 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.

On “Smallville,” the seventh season premiere kicks off with the arrival of Supergirl, whose name is Kara, as Clark’s (Tom Welling) 19-year-old cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother. Kara possesses all of Clark’s powers and one he doesn’t yet have ?? she can fly! Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak that puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her onto Lex’s (Michael Rosenbaum) radar. In addition, she takes a romantic interest in Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore).

“One of the joys of creating ‘Smallville’ has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters,” said ‘Smallville’ executive producer Al Gough. “Miles and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season.”

Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, “Smallville” was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Shanghai Noon, Spider-Man 2), based on the DC Comics characters. Gough and Millar serve as executive producers, along with Ken Horton, Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.

Supergirl is probably one of the lamest DC characters. She is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother. So, she is Clark’s cousin. This is probably the last season of Smallville, since Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) has already said that Season 7 is his last. Sometimes Smallville makes it hard to watch the show, despite how much I love Superman.
