Ron Paul and John McCain Clash Over War Positions

CNN/YouTubeAs I sat in front of my TV with my fists clenched in anger during the CNN/YouTube “Debate” last night, McCain addressed Ron Paul regarding his position on pulling out of Iraq. For those who are not aware, throughout the campaign, McCain has been running his campaign on a pro-war agenda. He continuously stands up and says that the surge is working and that we have to stay and win (whatever winning means).

“The best thing we can do for the Iraqi people is to give them their country back. That’s the most important thing that we can do. Just think of the cleaning up of the mess after we left Vietnam. Vietnam is now a friend of ours. We trade with them. Their president comes here. What we achieved in peace was unachievable in 20 years of the Americans and the French being in Vietnam. So it’s time for us to take care of America first.”

McCain went on to say that “we never lost the battle in Vietnam; it was American public opinion that cost us the war” and talked about how the difference between Vietnam and Iraq is that they (the Vietnamese) didn’t want to follow us home. “Their ultimate destination isn’t Iraq. Their ultimate destination is New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, and Arizona.” said McCain. Paul fired back. “[Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul] Wolfowitz even admitted that Al-Qaeda was organized and energized by our military base in Saudi Arabia. He understood why they came here. They come here because we’re occupying their country, just as we would object if they occupied our country.”

McCain said that Paul’s position was like “the same sort of appeasement that allowed Hitler to take power and WWII to happen.” The funny thing about that was after he said that, the audience booed at McCain. For anyone who has read a high school history book knows that it wasn’t our isolationism that shoved Hitler into power, though McCain claimed that much.

My favorite part of last night’s debate was the expression on Paul’s face when McCain was spewing out his lies.

Paul and McCain

If I could read Ron Paul’s mind, I bet it was saying “John, come on now. Don’t bullshit me.”

Paul went on and objected, saying McCain had misunderstood his support for non-intervention with isolationism. “I want to trade with people, talk with people, travel,” Paul replied. Ron Paul has been defending himself against those claims that he is an isolationist though nothing in his 30 year record points towards that. Instead of calling him unpatriotic as they do with most people who speak out against the war, the media has been calling him an isolationist.

Sen. John McCain, freshly back from a visit to Iraq over Thanksgiving, told Ron Paul that our troop are asking you to please let them win.

“The real question you have to ask is why do I get the most money from active duty officers and military personnel?” Paul replied.

Here is a post-debate interview with Ron Paul. He talks about McCain and how he’s dug his heels in and is taking blind shots trying to defend his position on Iraq.

I too was FURIOUS over the debate. My insurance agent and significant other were over and I could not control the bursts of bad language streaming from my mouth. The way CNN treated him was laughable.

Something about Ron Paul thinking the world “bullshit” in his humble status, really makes me laugh =). The man walks so softly, yet his message is a BIG stick.

I wonder how many Americans understand that their country is disappearing, and Ron Paul is the one who can get it back for us.
Unfortunately, half the people in this country have an IQ under 100. I predict that if Ron Paul’s message goes unnoticed, we will have a revolution in this country by 2013 and it’s going to be a whole new ballgame, and it won’t be pretty.

    Just watch.
