I thought it would be fun to focus on some of the non-conventional USB gadgets that are available for your computer. By now everyone has a USB thumb drive and/or USB hard drives. Check out some other uses for your extra USB ports.
First, let’s start at ThinkGeek. They always have some fun USB gadgets (and more).
- For those who have some old records laying around, or still buy records, you might want this. It allows you to easily copy those records into an mp3 format on your computer.
- I’ve ran across countless USB devices that will keep your drink warm, but this one actually keeps a drink warm, or keeps a drink cool.
- This has no real use except to be a toy. You control the rocket launcher through software installed on your PC. Highly desirable if you have a cat to shoot at.
- Just as it sounds. Uses a small little motor to move the water around and comes with a cool blue LED. Perfect for enhancing your work environment without actually having to take care of an fish.
- This USB microscope is a little on the pricey side for a novelty but if you have the cash, go for it.

Here are some more random ones I’ve found.
- If you live with someone who doesn’t like when you smoke in the house, here is a solution. This plugs into your USB drive and acts as an ashtray/smoke remover. The motor will suck the smoke through a filter. I’m not a smoker but thought this was cool never the less.
- If you don’t have a need to keep your drinks warm (like me, I don’t drive coffee) here is another solution. This mini-fridge will keep your drink cold. Not as versatile as the one mentioned above being as it can only fit a drink the size of a can, but handy anyway.
- Take your keyboard, turn it upside and shake it. Watch as all the nasties fall out. Nail clippings, food, hair, and who knows what else. Here is a little USB vacuum that can help you clean up your keyboard and the surrounding area.
- Again, just as the title suggests. While this probably won’t replace your heavy duty paper shredder, if you’re like me and use a ton of Post-It notes then this might be a good solution for you.
- A small and simple humidifier. Perfect for a dorm room or your office. It works just as the title suggests.
