Just a quick update on Ron Paul.
Today, Ron Paul received more votes in the Georgetown County (South Carolina) Republican Party presidential primary straw poll than did Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. Congressman Paul was second in the poll. Fred Thompson placed first. According to a press release issued today by Georgetown County Republican Chairman Tom Swatzel, there were 223 total votes cast. He said, “For our first ever straw poll, I am pleased with the turn out. It was an enthusiastic crowd that was the essence of grassroots politics at its best.”
Here is how the vote panned out:
Fred Thompson | 102 votes
Ron Paul | 40 votes
Mitt Romney | 37 votes
Duncan Hunter | 15 votes
Rudy Giuliani | 13 votes
John McCain | 7 votes
Sam Brownback | 6 votes
Newt Gingrich | 2 votes
Daniel Gilbert | 1 vote
While most expected Thompson to come in first, it was refreshing to see Ron Paul come in second place. Now with his first place under his belt from New Hampshire, let’s see how he does in Iowa next month.

What makes this even more interesting (1) One Thompson Supporter purchased 100 or the 102 tickets!!
While McCain is to be commended, certainly more than most politicians, for his service to our country, the main Republican candidates are just plain BORING.
You’d think someone else would jump in the ring, esp. since the Democrats will probably win and it’d help to have been a candidate once already, to make them a more credible candidate in 2012!
you have a great future as a journalist. I recommend CNN and FOXNews….they employ the ingeniously disingenuous.
great article…thanks for omitting facts for me…
At least Ron Paul knows how to get the crowd stirred up and reacting - the rest of those candidates are a waste.
I see Fred Thompson’s face in TV dramas, so why would I vote for anyone else?
Ron Paul? So what if he thinks straight. His face isn’t in the TV dramas, so who cares?
What facts did I omit? The straw poll was held at 11am on the 28th of July.

So, not sure what the hell your point is unless you were merely trying to be an ass.
This article really didn’t require anything more than saying who came in what place. No one expected Ron Paul (or anyone else) to place first in a state that most were saying Thompson already won.
there you go…thanks for pointing out in the first article that all the candidates combined barely equallrd Fred Thompson’s total, and that basically Ron Paul got his overswollen head handed to him. You pauliacs are all the same. I might write caustic articles but each and every one of them is factually sound, with no omissions.

Most anticipated Thompson winning big. The main reason I posted this up is that Ron Paul, who won the New Hampshire, and came in second place in this straw poll.
Go back into your hole and keep pretending that Ron Paul isn’t a contender in this race.
Love Ron Paul, and hate to burst your bubble, but Thompson was from Tennessee not South Carolina.

Yeah you’re right. No idea what I was thinking. Regardless, still a good win for Ron Paul.
I don’t have to pretend. He has no hope. Not a chance. All the money in the world can’t get enough of his supporters to understand that they have to register republican to vote for him in the primary. *s*
I don’t have a hole. Holes are restrictive, like state government.
I DID register Rep. to vote for Dr. Paul in the primaries. You can too. Then change back once he’s in office
